This event is a qualifier for the Finals of the South Essex Insurance Brokers (SEIB) BHS Cross Country Championships. In the nominated qualifying classes, the TWO highest placed riders (or two highest placed Pairs) who are BHS Gold Members ON THE DAY OF THE QUALIFIER will qualify for the Final. In the event of a combination of horse/pony and rider already having qualified, the qualification will pass down to the next eligible competitor. You must provide the Entries Secretary with your BHS membership number when you enter the qualifier but we recommend you also carry your membership card on the day. Non-members may enter qualifying classes but will not be eligible to qualify. Horses registered for British Eventing Horse Trials in 2006 are NOT eligible to qualify for the Finals ('Day Tickets' are acceptable). Rules at qualifiers may differ from those at the Finals. Classes at the Finals will be Novice and Pairs (both max 2' 9”) The Finals will take place in 2007. Information www.bhs.org. Events rules and regulations In the case of bad weather the event will be cancelled and a 75% refund will be given on receipt of a SAE within 7 days. Bad weather answer phone message: 0115 932 5457. If unsure please check to save a wasted journey! All horses and ponies must be at least 5 years of age, unless otherwise stated elsewhere in the event rules. No stallions are allowed. Age of rider is taken on 1 st January 2006 No rider must enter more than 2 horses in any one class unless otherwise stated elsewhere in the event rules. The organisers reserve the right to alter any class, refuse entry without reason and vary awards according to entries if necessary. Any objections must be made in writing to the Event Secretary, with a deposit of £20.00 within 15 minutes of the result being announced. The judge's decision is final. No one other than the competitor may ride the horse / pony at the event. No substitution of rider is permitted. Only horses/ponies entered in the event may be ridden on site. Outside assistance is not permitted. Hard hats must be worn at all times whilst mounted with the chin strap fastened. Hats to the specification PAS 015 or standard ASTM F1163 (serial number must be clearly visible)are considered to afford greater protection than the standard EN 1384. It is emphasised that hats bearing a QAS (quality assured symbol) e.g. Kite mark, SEI or QAS, are batch tested and therefore of a consistent standard. A hat meeting one of the following standards is compulsory for all JRMF events .
Competitors may only exercise horses in the warm up area provided and no lungeing is allowed at ODE or Cross Country. Consideration must be shown to other riders and all other persons present at all times. Any competitor will be disqualified by a JRMF official for dangerous riding, abusive language or misuse of whip or spurs. Horses or ponies that are considered a danger by a JRMF official will be required to leave the event. Dogs to be kept on a lead and children supervised at all times All horses/ponies must be attended at all times. No person other than officials or judges are allowed to alter any equipment used for competition purposes. No earrings or any form of body piercing ornaments may be worn and long hair must be tied back. Veterinary and paramedic cover will be at all events unless otherwise stated. All entries must carry their own liability cover for horses/ponies/riders competing at the event. The owner of the horse/pony is now liable for it's actions. Disclaimer of liability:Save for death or personal injury caused by negligence of the organisers or anyone for whom they are in law responsible, neither the organisers of the event to whom these rules apply, nor JRMF, nor any agent, employee or representative of these bodies accepts any liability for any accident, loss, damage, injury or illness to horses/ponies, owners, riders, spectators, land or any other person or property whatsoever whether caused by their negligence, breach of contract or in any other way whatsoever. Health and safety: The organiser of the event has taken reasonable precautions to ensure the health and safety of everyone present. For these measures to be effective, everyone must take all reasonable precautions to avoid and prevent accidents occurring and must obey the instructions of the organiser and all the officials and stewards.
Dressage and CR SJ rules All test may called Dressage rules based on British Dressage regulations. For further information please call secretary before the event. Juniors are 14 years and under on the 1 st Jan 2006. For dressage all competitors must wear jackets, tie/stock, gloves and light coloured jodhpurs. Plain dark half chaps with Jodhpur boots may be worn. Whips and spurs allowed. Spurs are to be no longer than 3.5cm and have a rounded downward point. (no spurs for juniors) Number bibs are not required. Snaffle bridles are compulsory, with drop, flash or cavesson nose bands. No martingale, neck strap or boots/bandages may be worn in the competition. Non-formal riding attire is accepted for the CR SJ No veterinary or paramedic cover will be present.
Additional rules for ODE competitions Class 1 and 2 beginners dressage test may be called. Whips are permitted in all three phases for these two classes only and no spurs are allowed in any phase. In class 3 and 4 dressage tests must be ridden from memory. No whips are permitted, spurs are allowed as long as they are no longer than 3.5cm and have a rounded downward point. Whips no longer than 75cm are permitted in the jumping phases. The event will be based on British Eventing rules. Please check rules for tack permitted in each phase. All competitors must wear a BETA approved body protectors for the cross-country phase, The list below includes those approved by BETA. Level 3 is specifically recommended for jumping, but it is strongly advised that the body protector chosen should impede neither flexibility nor balance. This list may be updated form time to time and the latest information may be obtained from www.beta-uk.org
Numbers issued by The JRMF must be worn at all times whilst mounted along with Medical armbands. Horses may only be entered in one class. Any fall of a rider (a rider is considered to have fallen when he is separated from the horse in such a way as to necessitate remounting or vaulting into the saddle) anywhere on the jumping courses or show ground must be checked by the paramedic before remounting and continuing to ride. Dressage sheets will be available after completion of the class. All competitors must walk the jumping courses and satisfy themselves that they and their horse/pony are up to the standard set. Show jumping penalties: knock-down=4, 1 st disobedience=4, 2 nd disobedience in whole course=8, 3 rd disobedience in whole course=elimination. Error of course not rectified,omission of obstacle or boundary flag, retaking obstacle already jumped, jumping obstacle in wrong order=elimination. First fall of rider on the course, if allowed to continue will result in 8 penalties, second fall on the course will result in elimination. Fall of horse or trapped horse at obstacle (a horse is to considered to have fallen when at the same time both its shoulders and quarters have touched either tqahe ground or obstacle) will result in elimination. Competitors eliminated on the show jumping phase must leave the course at a walk immediately. Competitors eliminated in the show jumping phase will not be allowed to compete in the cross-country phase. Cross country penalties : 1st disobedience at obstacle=20 penalties, 2nd disobedience at same obstacle=40 penalties, 3rd disobedience at same obstacle=elimination. 4th cumulative disobedience on whole course=elimination . Competitors eliminated on the cross-country phase must leave the course at a walk immediately. The speed and distance for each cross-country class will be on display in the secretary's area. Watches capable of being started, stopped and recording time elapsed are forbidden in all classes. For dressage and show jumping phases all competitors must wear jackets, tie/stock, gloves and light coloured jodhpurs. Cross-country colours are permitted for the cross-country phase and long sleeves recommended. Plain dark half chaps with Jodhpur boots may be worn.

All competitors must walk the jumping course and satisfy themselves that they and their horse/pony are up to the standard set. Beginner combinations must not have won a Cross Country Event in the last 12 months. Novice combinations must not have won a One Day Event or cross country event in the last 12 months. No restrictions for the intermediate class. The event will run based on British Eventing Rules The course will be timed on the time section only (fastest time) and competitors placed accordingly.
